Monsieur V
Monsieur Jan, the grace and precision of bistronomy
After years spent sharing his passion with chefs and professionals, Jan Verhaert had a quiet dream: to welcome friends and guests to his own table, in his own house. That dream took shape with Monsieur V, a charming little restaurant born in what used to be a village bistro.
Thoughtfully renovated, the place now radiates light and calm — a perfect balance between authenticity and contemporary elegance. A butcher’s block, a bar, a dining room of wood and soft light, and at its heart, an open kitchen where Jan works with quiet focus. On sunny days, terraces at both the front and back invite guests to linger, far from the city’s rush.
Nothing here is left to chance. Jan masters the art of bringing together local produce, terroir, and refined execution in dishes that please both lovers of true cuisine and those who cherish the great classics, revisited with finesse. A delicacy that mirrors the man himself — humble, sincere, and elegant.
Plates that speak from the heart.
Begin gently with scallops with autumn truffles and confit shallots, seared foie gras with butternut and dashi broth, or the perfect egg with wild mushrooms and vin jaune espuma.
Then come the mains: sweetbreads with truffles, partridge with baby chicory and orange jus, the fish of the day with hazelnut crumble and Noilly Prat espuma, or a vegetable pot-au-feu with autumn truffle.
To close: a Merveilleux “my way”, a golden Tarte Tatin, or the matured cheeses from Laurent Wathelet.
A seasonal journey, full of balance, elegance, and generosity.
A passionate wine lover, Jan has built a cellar that feels both coherent and alive, from the great Bordeaux labels to the most vibrant natural wines. A special mention for La Rosine, Stéphane Ogier’s subtle Syrah, a recent favorite of the chef.
With sauces made from scratch, local artisan bread, and an eye for every detail, Monsieur V stands today as an essential address — awarded a Bib Gourmand by the Michelin Guide and the title of “Gastro Bistro of the Year” by Gault&Millau.
A house of truth, warmth, and grace — and to us, a lasting favorite.
